Well, we’re working our way through Mason’s first Michigan Winter. It’s been cold up here lately, so he hasn’t gotten out much. He does have some really nice cold-weather gear, though (Thanks Liz!):

Mason’s been doing pretty well lately–we would have written sooner, but we’re not used to having so little to report
. In fact, this the the first time since he was born that we’ve gone 4 weeks in between appointments, which is awesome! Unless you’re a grandparent, I suppose.

So we’ve been a little lazy about posting. Sorry.Last Thursday’s doctor appointment was pretty frustrating. When we told Mason’s dentist that he can pop his feeding plate out with his tongue, he was very insistent that we don’t let him use it anymore. He’s quite concerned that Mason will pop it out and choke on it. Mason’s surgeon, on the other hand, was very insistent at the last appointment that Mason wear the plate as much as possible. He also won’t eat without it (not that he had been eating much at all!). The final consensus was that we were to keep the plate in *only* when Mason eats, and then take it out right away. He doesn’t mind that at all….especially in the middle of the night.

We had a bit of a rough week. Mason was having a hard time eating, and we spent most of the week pulling our hair out trying to figure out why. Is he in pain? Does he have gas? Is he associating the bottle with his medicine? Will he eat cereal? Will he eat applesauce?

We finally discovered that if we held the bottle on the left side of his mouth (his more developed side), he ate (slightly) better, so we decided that he must not want to eat without his feeding plate.
