Lights, Camera, Action!

Well, we’re working our way through Mason’s first Michigan Winter. It’s been cold up here lately, so he hasn’t gotten out much. He does have some really nice cold-weather gear, though (Thanks Liz!):

Mason's cool hat

We’ve had to add a few new specialists to Mason’s medical repertoire lately: he’s now got a Pediatric Gastroenterologist and a Pediatric Dietitian on the list. Mason has actually been eating better since the new year, but we still have to fight him pretty hard to eat. He seems to like solid food better than bottles, so mostly our concern is to keep him hydrated. All in all, though, his intake is not far below the norm at this point.

It took me awhile to get the video plugin worked out, but while we’re on the subject of eating, here is the long-time-coming video of Mason’s incredibly entertaining “Sour Food Face.” (Edit: I had to tweak some settings, but the video should be fixed now.  Thanks for the heads up, Laurie!)

For better or worse, Mason hasn’t quite figured out how to crawl yet. I’d love to see him learn that particular skill, but we’re probably better off leaving it until after his surgery (only 10 days away!). In the meantime, he’s been testing out his legs, with Mom’s help.

Walking on the couch

We had a pretty big storm up here a few weeks ago, as you local readers will recall, which knocked out the power on campus for about 20 hours. Naturally, the residents in our building had a great time running around with flashlights and creating old-school fun. Mason seemed to pick up on the energy, and he loved the light show that all of the flashlights provided. Unfortunately, he ran out of steam while riding around on Dad’s shoulders, so he decided that would be an opportune chance for a nap. Mom and I couldn’t believe it.

Sleepy guy

Other than that, we’ve just been hanging out and trying to gear up for next week’s surgery. We’re not entirely sure what to expect, but with one surgery under our collective belt, I feel better prepared than last time. They say that at this age, the surgery is harder on the parents than on the child.

I hope that’s true.

Keep Mason in your prayers this week, and keep your eyes open for more pictures and videos. For those of you who haven’t seen early pictures of Mason, I’m going to try to add some pre-operation blog entries to fill in the history. Feel free to send me an email if I’m not keeping things updated enough :-)

And finally, a few more recent pictures:

Mason and his girlfriend Kara share a romantic moment. (Forgive the white-balance. The flash was off)

What a cutie.

Happy Mason

Oh, I love the Sour Food Face! It’s not quite as mischievous as the I’m Dropping a Bog Load Face, but it’s up there. Good luck on Monday!

    Gabe and Andrea,

This website is amazing!! Mason is adorable and quite the trooper. I think the sour food face video is hilarious and My Funniest Home Videos quality. I can’t wait to see you all when you get back. Drive safely.

    See you soon,
    Katie

  3. Great Grandma/Grandpa Says:

What an adorable baby! says Grandma. Great-Grandma says we enjoyed the pictures and seeing the progress you’ve made (since surgery.) Great-Grandpa says he enjoyed seeing you doing the pushups and doesn’t know if he can match your athletic ability. Lots of love to you from the beach in Florida!! XO

The video is hilarious! I watched it at work one day and the whole lobby came to see what was happening. Now everyone in Little India is talking about the video and requests to see it when they stop in the bank. Too funny!
