Happy (belated) Thanksgiving!

Mason’s been doing pretty well lately–we would have written sooner, but we’re not used to having so little to report :-) . In fact, this the the first time since he was born that we’ve gone 4 weeks in between appointments, which is awesome! Unless you’re a grandparent, I suppose.

Thanksgiving was pleasant–Mason got to see some relatives for the first time, and we all enjoyed the celebrations.

Thanksgiving Dinner

My family celebrated an early Christmas while several of us were in town, so we got a preliminary taste of baby’s-first-christmas. Mason is, of course, more interested in wrapping paper and boxes than any of his gifts, but it was very nice to see everyone and unwind for awhile. Mason was a little overwhelmed–I think he was trying to come to grips with so many unfamiliar faces.

Mason's big Christmas present

Grandpa made sure to get in plenty of Mason time while we were home :-) . I’m not really sure what the rules are for this game, but I think Mason’s winning.

And since I’ve embarrassed Grandpa, it’s only fair to get Opa too.

The biggest (and only, really) concern in the last several weeks has been Mason’s eating. Occasionally he’ll have a really good day and eat like he’s supposed to, but most days Andrea and I (okay, mostly Andrea–she’s a saint) spend the whole day forcing bottles and spoons into his mouth, and he only gets up to 25 oz. Typical babies his size eat 35 oz. a day, for those of you who aren’t up on random baby statistics.

We’ve been experimenting with as many variables as we can think of, but can’t get him to eat more. Our only remaining theory is that Mason’s acid reflux (which he’s had since he was born) is worse than typical, and his daily dose of Prevacid isn’t doing its job. We’ve set up an appointment with a specialist, but of course it takes a month to get in.

We haven’t gotten a chance to introduce Mason to Santa yet (Mr. Kringle doesn’t make many appearances in Mt. Pleasant), but we’ve been enjoying our time off from Children’s Hospital. Mason has definitely developed his own personality, and he seems to be learning new things every day. His favorite new game is “Riding the Dada-pony”–through the hallways, around the apartment, to the lobby and back, wherever. He just recently decided that Dad’s hair should be the reins. Ouch.

Dada-pony!

We also like to wrestle occasionally. Mason usually wins.

Wresting

Other than that, it’s life as normal.

Oh. And poopy diapers officially stink. Badly. The only consolation is the poop-face that always comes before the smell. :-)

Poop-face!!!

That’s it for now. Merry Christmas from all of us!

OMG, he is so cute! I can’t wait to see you all and I am glad that you are enjoying some much needed down time from the Dr. May the new year bring more of the same. Hope to see you all soon!

Lord, Mason’s poopie face is high-larious!!! I love the picture of him in the slow cooker/roaster oven too! Good luck with the appointment to get Mason’s acid reflux examined–hopefully, the problem will be easily identified and he’ll be eating like the rest of the Ballinger/Purrenhage’s shortly. The pre-Christmas/Thanksgiving stories are great to hear. I am sure that you all needed the time to relax and connect with family. Joe and I can’t wait to see you all in early January! Until then….Keep Smiling Mason!

I hope he knows that isn’t a toy… There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t read a story about some kid, somewhere getting cooked in a crock pot over the span of 8-10 hours. It’s an epidemic.

Thanks for the updates. The little guy looks like he’s doing good!
