Mason’s Surgery
Mason has come through his first surgery with flying colors.

We went in Monday morning at 6:00, and went through the whole registration process. We took him back to the prep area and the nurses checked his height, weight, etc. and put him in a little yellow gown (adorable!), and the doctors came and talked to us about the procedure. Mason (as usual) was smiling at everyone, and very happy to see so many people. They took him back to the OR sometime around 8:00, and we waited for almost 5 hours with my parents.

When he came out, Mason was all taped up and very groggy, but we could tell that his surgery went very well. He slept most of the day, and Andrea and I took turns holding him all night long in a very uncomfortable glider-rocker (the nurses couldn’t find a recliner for some reason, even though there was supposed to be one in every room). He has been recovering extremely well, and is now eating almost as much as he did pre-surgery. He’s also off of the strong painkillers, and is only taking tylenol and ibuprofin!

Mom and I are getting some rest, and our parents have been extremely helpful through the whole process. We’re still trying to figure out what the next few days will look like, but we expect to be going up to Mt. Pleasant sometime this weekend.
Thanks to everyone for your prayers and support. We could really feel all of your love this week.

Mason was feeling much better the next day!

He likes his no-no’s; he just doesn’t like to wear them.

You can clearly see his new lip and nose in this one. There is no way to get that dried blood off for several days still (we can’t take the tape off yet), but you can see the tiny little stitches in his lip, and the clear nasal stints in his nostrils.

For comparison, here’s a picture of Mason from the day before surgery

Gabe and Andrea, so glad to see that Mason is through his surgery! Tony Voisin sent me the link and message that everything was going well. I haven’t had the opportunity to see you three since Mason was born, but you were on the prayer list at MPCC and I have been praying for your family and that Mason’s surgery and recuperation goes well. Please take care of each other and I have to say, Mason couldn’t have two more loving, sweet parents! Enjoy your beautiful boy,
Shawna

Have been thinking about you all week! I’m so happy that Mason did so well with his surgery. Just remember–things are always harder on the parents than on the child! Can’t wait for you to be back in Mt Pleasant and to be able to make that baby smile!!

Wow–I love the pictures! Mason looks great! I love his day before picture–what a ham!! I woke Joe up (he’s on nights) and made him take a look at the after pictures. Joe said Mason looks good and he complimented the plastic surgeon before rolling over and falling back asleep! I love Mason’s beautiful blue eyes! Andrea, you look so beautiful in the first picture! Where’s Gabe? Behind the camera? More pictures required!!! Mason’s gift is on the way (only 6 to 8 days for delivery)! Miss you guys and wish I could be there! –Mary

Hey guys, I’m just jumping in here now. Lisa put me wise to the site. What an adventure of love for the three of you!!! You certainly have been very loving parents to your precious son. He is adorable (as all babies are) but I know very special. I love how you are keeping his progress recorded like this. What a nice way to look back & see the progress he is making. As parents, I know you are giving it your all. Praying for continued strenght for you both. God only hands out what He knows you can handle. Thank You for sharing this site.
